I have been rather busy on the circuit recently, playing in two great tournaments, Malta and the London Classic.
It was the first time that I had taken a trip to Malta and I fully enjoyed the experience. With a wealth of history and some great places to eat and drink, it is a tournament that I would highly recommend.
There was a good English contingent, with myself, Gary Quillan, Chris Duncun, David Spence and Alan Walton all competing in the open.
I finished in a solid 4th place, gaining a couple of rating points. The highlight of the tournament for me was my last round victory in the Classical Dutch. My opponent was Azer Mirzoev, a Grandmaster with a decent rating of 2550.
I have included a video of the game below, with some brief notes.
Anyway, lots of fun and hopefully I will be able to make a return trip next year. The highlight of the tournament may well have been a bet that I took after the last day, it was getting rather late and I had to take a swim from one side of the harbour to the other. Luckily for me, I used to swim in national competitions… Anyway. paid for lunch, cheers guys!
